After completing his graduate studies in the United States, Dohyung joined Naver as a designer. Later, at IDEO Japan, he practiced Human-Centered Design, working on future visioning and new business design strategy projects. Following his time at Pivotal Labs, he joined Bekind Labs in 2023.

Can you tell us about your career so far?
I started my career as a designer at Naver in Korea. Later, I moved to IDEO Japan, where I practiced Human-Centered Design and Design Strategy. Most of my projects were focused on creating future concepts and designing strategies for new businesses.
However, at IDEO, I often couldn’t be involved all the way through to product development. Over time, I felt a strong desire to actually build things together with engineers. That’s when I came across Pivotal Labs — a place that combined the best of consulting and in-house development, allowing designers to be involved consistently from discovery through to delivery.

Why did you decide to join Bekind Labs?
I had worked closely with Heewon, the current CEO of Bekind Labs, back when we were at Pivotal Labs. I saw up close how sincerely he faced problems and how he led teams with integrity and empathy. His leadership always valued the people on the ground, and that left a deep impression on me.
At Bekind Labs, I felt we could create an environment where we could focus purely — and healthily — on making great products under those same values. That’s why I decided to join.

How do you work at Bekind Labs?
At Bekind Labs, the Balanced Team—designers, engineers, and PMs—work together from the very beginning of every project.
Since I’m the only Product Designer on a project, the direction and decisions I make have a big impact on the team’s overall output. It comes with responsibility, but it’s deeply rewarding because you can see your work directly connected to real outcomes.
My role isn’t just to design UI. I identify problems, form hypotheses, run validations, and lead the entire process—from UX research and design to final delivery. I discuss ideas as an equal with PMs and engineers, and through collaboration with clients, we build strong relationships of trust with stakeholders.
I’ve even proposed and facilitated workshops aimed at helping clients strengthen their own design organizations.
